Indianapolis café owned by gold medal Olympian awarded for initiative’s one-year anniversary
INDIANAPOLIS – On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Mayor Joe Hogsett and Director David Fredricks of the Office of Minority & Women Business Development recognized Tea’s Me Café as the Certified Vendor of the Month for October 2023. With three locations, the cafe is known for its premium loose-leaf teas, delicious food, and sophisticated atmosphere. Bought by Tamika Catchings, former Indiana Fever player and four-time Olympic Gold Medalist, the Cafe is also home to her Catch the Stars Foundation, which focuses on providing programming around fitness, literacy, and character development for underprivileged youth aged 6-18.
“While many of us know Tamika as a basketball hall-of-famer and Olympic champion, she is proving just as adept at business and community advocacy,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “As October’s Vendor of the Month for OMWBD, Tamika and her shops exemplify a growing, diverse, and locally-owned business landscape.”
Since its inception, Tea’s Me Café, (a certified minority and women-owned business) has been a community treasure recognized for its delicious food and beverages and its programming and events. The Cafe recently expanded its reach by opening two additional locations in Tarkington Park and Ivy Tech. The Cafe has received numerous accolades, including Nextdoor’s Neighborhood Fave for Best Breakfast & Brunch Spot and Best Coffee Shop from 2017-2023, and the Indiana Equity, Inclusion & Opportunity Award.
“We are excited for Tea’s Me to be the October Vendor of the Month,” said Tamika Catchings. “This awarding is a huge testament to our Tea’s Me team and our adaptability, especially as we’ve navigated the past three years. We don’t serve to get accolades but being recognized for the great work we’re doing inside and outside the café is wonderful.”
OMWBD’s Vendor of the Month initiative launched in October 2022 to bring additional attention to certified minority, women, veteran, and disabled-owned business enterprises (XBEs) making a positive difference across Indianapolis. Past Vendor’s of the Month include LiftOff Creamery, Groundbreakers, Colored Threads, Consistent Care Transit, Powers & Sons Construction, Geyer Fire, Empower Results, Cornerstone Construction, Stepping Stone Therapy Center, Briggs Professional Photography, and Hoosier Security.
